Sport has always been a vital part of my life, providing the structure, routine, and mental clarity I need to navigate daily challenges. As someone with ADHD, physical activity helps me channel my hyperactive energy in a positive way, supporting my mental health and well-being.
I created the @nidsruns Instagram account after receiving a spot in the 2024 London Marathon, to run for the National Autistic Society. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned a great deal about running, not just as a sport but as a means of personal growth and resilience.
While many athletes share their journeys online, I noticed a lack of voices from the neurodivergent community discussing how their unique experiences shape their approach to sport. This became even more apparent when I got injured just before the marathon. My hypermobility, often linked to neurodivergence, led to increased injuries, significantly impacting my mental health.
@Nidsruns has since evolved into a space where I share my runs, sporting activities, and insights on how being neurodivergent influences my approach to sport and life. I believe sport should be inclusive for all, regardless of neurodiversity, and I’m committed to discussing the challenges and triumphs that come with this. By being open about my experiences, I hope to connect with others on similar journeys and promote the idea that everyone can find their place in the world of sport.
